NYCFC held to 1-1 Draw with Toronto

New York City FC were forced to settle for a 1-1 draw with Toronto FC after surrendering an early lead at Yankee Stadium.
Looking for a third straight victory to start the second half of the season Head Coach Pascal Jansen named an unchanged lineup following the 3-1 victory over Chicago Fire. The move seemed to pay dividends as NYCFC won a penalty in the sixth minute. The play began from a nice lofted pass by Benie Traore, who was making his first start for the club after joining in the summer transfer window, that found Agustin Ojeda. The Argentine found himself in the penalty area but was pulled back by Richie Laryea before he could get a shot off. A penalty was awarded and Nico Fernandez Mercau calmly slotted the ball into the bottom-right corner for his 13th league goal.
Both sides generated chances the rest of the first half but were unable to score. Toronto was able to eventually draw even in first-half stoppage time after a poor back pass sent Josh Sargent on goal. Freese did well to deny a shot from Salloi on the sequence, but nothing could be done to prevent Djorje Mihailovic from scoring on the rebound.
The second half began with New York looking for a goal, despite numerous chances they were unable to get a breakthrough. In the end both sides had to settle for a 1-1 draw. Despite New York's frustrations at not getting the three points, they can look positively on the fact they have taken 7 of 9 points to start the second half of the season.
Next up for NYCFC is a Leagues Cup tilt with Santos Laguna this Thursday August 6th at Sports Illustrated Stadium.
