Former Liverpool center back Rhys Williams is on trial with Red Bull New York. Williams, 25, has been on the books of the English side since 2019, with his contract expiring at the end of the 2025/26 season.
The 6'5 defender from Preston, England started his career in the Academy at Liverpool in 2011, and won the FA Youth Cup for the Reds in 2019. He spent the 2019-20 season on loan at Kidderminster Harriers. With Harriers he appeared in 26 matches and scored 1 goal. He made his first-team debut for Liverpool in September 2020, appearing as a starter in a 7-2 victory over Lincoln City in a Carabao Cup match. He made 19 appearances for Liverpool in the 2020-21 campaign, including nine Premier League and six UEFA Champions League matches. Williams spent the first half of the 2021-22 season on loan to Swansea City and then was loaned to Blackpool for the first half of the 2022-23 season. He also had loan stints with Aberdeen in Scotland and with Port Vale. For the 2024-25 season he was loaned to Morecambe. He was a regular starter for the League Two side as he appeared in 38 matches and scored 2 goals. For his career, he has appeared in 109 matches, scoring 3 goals.
Williams has also represented England at the youth levels, playing for the U18, U19, and U21 squads.
