In a match between the European and South American Champion, Spain provided a dominant performance in beating Argentina 1-0 in the 2026 World Cup Final.

Argentina came into the match looking for its second consecutive World Cup title, while Spain entered the match riding a 37 match unbeaten streak. It appeared the perfect final, but only one team came out to play. Spain provided a dominant performance, controlling the midfield and dictating the play. The Spanish defense, which entered the match having allowed only one goal in 7 matches, continued to limit the South Americans. Spain which was led by Rodri, continued to dominate the midfield and would completely nullify the great Leo Messi.

Spain, looking to spark their attack would introduce Ferran Torres and Pedri into the match in place of Fabian Ruiz and Mikel Oyarzabal in the 62nd minute. The two Barcelona players would provide an impact for Spain as they continued to press forward looking for the winning goal.

Despite the Spanish dominance, Spain could not find a goal as Argentina looked on without posing a challenge. Spain attacked at will, with Argentina sitting back in hopes of a counter attack. In stoppage time, Spain would gain a numerical advantage as Enzo Fernández would be sent off after receiving a second yellow card following a reckless challenge on Spain's Pau Cubarsí. In the 96th minute it appeared Spain had opened the scoring with Nico Williams finishing off a nice sequence for Spain, however, Mikel Merino would be called for a foul on the play and the goal would controversially be disallowed. Spain would continue to press for the winning goal in extra time, hoping to avoid a penalty kick shootout against an Argentina side that had yet to record a shot during the match. The breakthrough would come for Spain in the 106th minute, Nico Williams would receive the ball and head a precise cross from Pedro Porro directly into Torres' path, allowing the forward to slot the ball in from close range. The goal would break the scoreless deadlock in a match Spain had thoroughly dominated, as the European champions had already registered numerous shots against Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez. The much maligned Ferran Torres would score the goal that would send millions of Spaniards into delirium as they recalled the goal from Andres Iniesta in the 2010 World Cup final.

Spain would comfortably hold on to the 1-0 lead and record a dominating victory over Argentina. The victory would mark Spain's second-ever men's World Cup title and their first since 2010. The Spaniards capped off an incredible tournament run where they did not lose a match and recorded seven clean sheets. With this win, Spain became the first nation to hold both the men's and women's World Cup titles at the same time. In addition, Spain has captured 5 of the last 10 major tournaments they have competed in, winning 3 of the last 5 European Cups, and 2 of the last 5 World Cup titles. Spain would also claim the individual awards for the tournament; Rodri would be named as player of the tournament, Pau Cubarsi as young player of the tournament and Unai Simon as the top goalkeeper.
