League sources are reporting that Red Bull New York is acquiring defensive midfielder David Ruiz from Inter Miami. The 22-year-old Honduran, who has fallen out of favor this season, will join Red Bull on a loan deal for the remainder of the 2026 season, with the club having an option to make the move permanent.
Ruiz was a key contributor for Inter Miami during his first two seasons with the first team, appearing in 64 matches and scoring 4 goals. This included the 2024 season in which the club won the Supporters’ Shield. However, he has been limited to 18 matches over the last two seasons due to injury.
A healthy Ruiz can provide Michael Bradley’s side with some defensive stability as the team is lacking a real defensive midfielder. Ruiz is regarded as a high-energy, versatile box-to-box midfielder with a good work rate and defensive instincts. He is also an experienced player at the international level, having made 9 international appearances and scoring 3 goals for Honduras.
The Red Bulls are currently clinging to the number eight seed in the Eastern Conference, but their recent form is of much concern. Defensively, they have conceded 46 goals, the third-most in the conference, and have a minus 14 goal differential.
Note: In a separate transaction, the Red Bulls have sold their discovery rights to Daniel Job to FC Dallas for $125,000 in General Allocation Money. FC Dallas is signing the Nigerian winger from Norwegian side Kongsvinger for around $5 million dollars.
