Club América, fresh off of winning Mexico's Liga MX Femenil Clausura title on Sunday, defeated Gotham FC 4-1 in the semifinals of the Concacaf W Champions Cup. The New York side was looking to win the title once again after winning the inaugural W Champions Cup last spring.
Scarlett Camberos opened the scoring for América in the 21st minute helping the Mexicans to a 1-0 halftime lead. Spanish forward Esther González scored an equalizer for Gotham three minutes into the second half. The tie would not last long as Camberos would strike again in the 57th minute, while Aylin Avilez would extend the lead to 3-1 in the 70th minute. Camberos, the San Diego-born Mexico international would complete her hat trick from the penalty spot near the end of the match.
The Mexican side will now face Washington Spirit as they seek their first international title on Saturday and a berth in next year's FIFA Women's Champions Cup. The NWSL side beat Mexico's Pachuca 1-0 in the second semifinal, with Paraguay international Claudia Martinez scoring a late game-winner to avoid an all-Liga MX final.
