According to sources and reported by @newenglandsoccerinsider the New York Cosmos are looking to sign attackers Chevone Marsh and Lamin Jawneh.

With the team’s early struggles, and the directive from the club being to win now, the Cosmos have been looking to make moves to bolster a relatively young squad. Last week veteran goalkeeper Javier Garcia Jr. was acquired from Boise AC. It was evident the club needed to make a move at the keeper position with Tristan Stephani struggling in place of an injured Derrek Chan. While Stephani is talented, his inexperience was evident in many matches this season.

The Cosmos focused on bringing in a young squad this season, but USL League One has shown that experience is also needed to build a winning squad. To that end, the players being linked to the Cosmos can add experience and provide depth to the squad, as they have several years of experience at the USL level.

With the recent departure of Julien Lacher, and the limited opportunities given to Leo Guarino and other young attackers , it was evident the Cosmos needed to address depth on the attacking side. This seems to be the case, as the club is rumored to be finalizing agreements with Gambian winger Lamin Jawneh and Jamaican left winger/attacking midfielder Chevone Marsh.

Chevone Marsh (Kingston, Jamaica)

The 32-year-old Jamaican has represented his country on 5 occasions, scoring 2 goals. He began his career in 2012 with Cavalier FC in his home country, and was considered as one of the more exciting attackers on the Island. In two stints with Cavalier, he scored 38 goals in 185 appearances. In 2015 he had a brief spell in the United States with USL PDL side Ventura County Fusion, where he scored 3 goals in 7 appearances. Marsh has also played in Finland, El Salvador, and Costa Rica. He was an important player for A.D.R. Jicaral in Costa Rica during the 2021/22 season, as he appeared in 26 matches and scored 4 goals for the top flight club.

Marsh returned to the United States in 2023 signing with USL League One side Chattanooga Red Wolves. He was an instant contributor for Chattanooga, and in August of 2023, after scoring in four consecutive matches, was named as the USL League One Player of the Month. The diminutive attacker ended his first season with the Red Wolves appearing in 30 matches and scoring 12 times. He continued his good form in the 2024 season as he appeared in 32 matches and scored 8 times. In 2025 Marsh signed with USL League One side Greenville Triumph, where he had another productive season with 7 goals in 31 appearances. He scored his first career hat-trick on August 9, 2025 in a 5-4 victory over Charlotte Independence.

Marsh has proven to be a productive player at the USL League One level and can add another dimension to the Cosmos, as they have lacked goal scoring production from their wingers.

Lamin Jawneh (Banjul, The Gambia)

The 30-year-old Gambian speedster has had quite the journeyman career. After coming to the United States from his native Gambia, Jawneh plied his trade in the lower-leagues with NPSL sides Inter Nashville and SGFC Eagles Maryland. In 2018 he played briefly in Greece with Ialysos before returning to the United States. In 2020 he earned a contract with Atlanta United 2 after a tryout with the club. Playing as both a right and left winger Jawneh made 11 appearances for the USL Championship side. In 2021 he played for top Dominican side Moca FC, and appeared in 24 matches scoring one goal. In 2022 he continued his travels, this time signing with USL Championship side Phoenix Rising FC, in which he appeared in 7 matches. In all these stops Jawneh showed great power and pace, but he failed to deliver consistently with goals and assists.

Jawneh remained a free agent through the 2023 season, before signing with NISA side Georgia Lions in 2024. With the Lions he started in all 9 matches and provided 1 goal and an assist.  For the 2025 season Jawneh signed with Texoma FC in USL League One, having his most productive campaign. In 31 matches playing as both a winger and attack minded fullback, he scored 2 goals and recorded 5 assists.

While not a reliable goal scorer, Jawneh has the ability to add dynamism to the attack as a depth piece for the Cosmos. His pace and power can be an added element for the Cosmos late in matches, whether playing as a winger or attacking as a fullback.
