Cosmos Fall 3-0 to Westchester

The Cosmos returned to the road looking for their first road win of the regular season as they faced Westchester SC. Having previously beaten WSC on the road in a USL League Cup match, Cosmos were unable to capitalize on numerous opportunities during the match and dropped a 3-0 contest.
With a heavily depleted squad, which included an injury to Darren Sidoel during warmups, Cosmos were hoping they would have enough in the tank to take down a beatable Westchester squad. With injuries to many key players, Nick Zielonka and Patrick Bohui were given another opportunity in the attack for Cosmos. The match started negatively for Cosmos as in the seventh minute Bobby Pierre would open the scoring, giving the hosts an early advantage. Pierre would find space in the six yard box and place the ball in the bottom left corner. Soon after the Cosmos would get the better of play and control the possession, and have a great chance in the 38th minute by Guenzatti. However, they would be unable to finish anything off and would go into the half trailing by one.
The second half would start with Cosmos on the attack. Patrick Bohui would help create chances, but nothing would come of them. In the 55th minute he would set up Zielonka but the winger would not take advantage of the play. In the 57th minute Bohui would hit the post as the Cosmos pressed for the equalizer. The Cosmos travelling supporters would be felt as they tried to push the team forward. In the 62nd minute Cosmos would insert Tino Puentes into the lineup in place of Morabito. The game would continue with chances from both sides, and in the 74th minute the Cosmos would bring in Lamin Jawneh and Davide Galazzini in place of Bohui and Zielonka to try to provide energy to the attack. However, moments later, in the 76th minute Kyle Evans would double the lead for Westchester. With Cosmos pushing for a goal Conor McGlynn would add a third in the 83rd minute to seal the result.
Looking at the final result can lead one to think the problem during this match was defensive, however the Cosmos inability to take advanatage of opportunities and the poor production in the final third continues match after match. Despite finishing with more possession and controlling large portions of the match, the Cosmos were unable to convert their chances while Westchester capitalized on theirs. Despite the 3-0 score line, the match was very winnable, and once again the Cosmos inability to finish in the final third came back to haunt them. Without consistent goal scorers it is difficult to get results in League One.
