Cosmos fall 3-0 to Greenville Triumph FC

The Cosmos, in search of changing their fortunes, looked to the July 4th matchup against Greenville Triumph to kick-start their season. In a match that the Cosmos looked the better-side for the first 41 minutes, before a 100 minute weather-delay, things would not end as expected. The momentun of the match clearly changed after the delay and the Triumph would record an important 3-0 victory over Cosmos.
The match played at Hinchliffe in front of 968 fans, including a greatly diminished supporters group, started well for the Cosmos in the early going. The Cosmos looked the better side in the early going and had two clear chances in the first 15 minutes to take the lead. They would not capitalize on their chances, which would come back to haunt them. At the 41 minute mark in the first half the match would be stopped due to thunder in the area. The match would resume 100 minutes later but with Greenville looking like the better side.
Brandon Fricke would break the deadlock for Greenville in first-half stoppage time, scoring deep into first-half stoppage time finishing off a Greenville corner. Greenville substitute William Akio would take over the second-half, netting a brace with goals in the 57th and 64th minutes to secure the 3-0 victory. Despite controlling substantial possession, the Cosmos could not solve Greenville goalkeeper Amal Knight and dropped yet another home match.
With yet another league loss, it is pretty evident that the current Cosmos roster is deeply flawed. The team continues to be unable to convert on quality chances, and certain players are not taking advantages of minutes being provided them. If results don't improve nothing is out of the realm of possibility. With the Cosmos needing to prepare for the future, players will continue to be evaluated, and it is clear that the roster turnover from season one to season two will be significant.
