The Brooklyn FC men’s team is currently in 11th place in the USL Championship table with a record of 2W-1D-5L through eight matches played so far this season, resulting in only seven league points. As Brooklyn FC looks to get back on the right foot, forward Markus Anderson has been one of the few bright spots for the club, which has had a shaky start to its campaign.

At the end of last month (April 30), Brooklyn FC men’s team forward Markus Anderson was nominated for Player of the Month along with three other league players. Anderson was a late addition to the final Brooklyn FC men’s roster ahead of the inaugural season, which started in March. The club signed Anderson on loan from MLS club Philadelphia Union.

With Brooklyn FC head coach Marlon LeBlanc previously spending quite some time in the Philadelphia Union organization before making the move to Brooklyn, having had the opportunity to understand the player that Markus Anderson is, he felt that bringing a player of his caliber to Brooklyn would only make the team stronger. It is pretty clear that coach LeBlanc has a great eye for talent and creating a system where a player like Anderson can thrive.

At this current point in Brooklyn’s USL Championship season, Anderson, after getting a starting XI spot against Louisville City on March 28, has yet to let his foot off the gas. With six total match appearances under his belt, the 22-year-old leads Brooklyn FC’s men’s team in goals scored with four while also having two assists. However, his impact goes beyond the statistics sheet. Anderson has an appetite for the ball, moving swiftly between defenders, breaking lines like a surgeon using a scalpel with precision. Standing at 6-foot, 168 pounds, he is definitely not afraid of contact, with defenders always having a tough time moving him off the ball.

Anderson understands space, knowing where he should be at all times and being able to receive the ball even when the defense is tight on his heel. He has a strong first touch and is able to feed off his teammates and get forward for goal opportunities in a timely manner. Even in their most recent 3-2 loss against Miami City, it was Anderson who, in the 37th minute of the match, put Brooklyn on the board first. It is very rare in the soccer world that a player of his age has such a high IQ and understands his role expertly.

As the USL Championship season continues to roll on, fans will be watching as Markus Anderson slowly cements himself as one of the best players not only for Brooklyn FC, but in the entire USL Championship. It is only a matter of time before clubs start calling or Philadelphia Union swoops in to take back such a valuable player.
