In a city known for its diversity, energy, and passion for sports, Borough League Soccer is creating something special for young players across New York City. Founded by Afraz Mahmud and Baby Doumbouya, two high schoolers with the vision of making soccer more accessible, competitive, and community-driven, the league has quickly grown into a platform of more than 40 teams that brings together players from different neighborhoods and backgrounds through the love of the game.
Unlike many traditional leagues that can be expensive or difficult to join, Borough League Soccer focuses on creating opportunities for teens and young adults to compete in an organized environment without financial barriers limiting participation. The league operates across multiple boroughs in New York City, giving players the chance to represent their communities while competing against teams from across the city.
Now the league is trying to expand into the established New York Soccer scene with the New York Supporters Cup. With the many expansion teams from the New York area into the USL, the opportunity is there for more New Yorkers to start supporting a local club. Borough League Soccer hopes to use the Supporters Cup to highlight the fan culture we have at the clubs across the city. SG’s such as NYCFC’s Cityboyz, Red Bulls’s Torcida, Cosmos’ Five Points, and Brooklyn FC’s warriors have all signed on to determine which club’s supporters are the best of the best.
It’ll be a battle for New York’
The tournament, which Borough League Soccer hopes to make a yearly spectacle, is set to be held the morning of June 6 at John V. Lindsay Field at East River Park. Supporters not competing in the tournament are welcome to come by and cheer on their fellow supporters! Food and drink will be provided in what Borough League Soccer hopes to make a community affair.
